Dental Assistants – UAMS Oral Health Clinic (two open positions)
The Dental Assistant primarily provides support to dental faculty, dental students, and dental residents of the UAMS Oral Health Clinic. The Oral Health Clinic is responsible for delivering comprehensive dental care and for assisting in the promotion of dental education at UAMS and throughout the State of Arkansas. The clinic will serve as a pathway to student and resident education for dental assisting, dental hygiene, and dental students as well as advanced education dental
residents. This position functions in a primary support role toward the general operations and maintenance of the clinic. As part of his/her job duties, the dental assistant may: organize and assist the dentist in the delivery of dental procedures in Oral Health Clinic and UAMS operating rooms; guide patients through dental processes prior to treatment; educate patients in oral hygiene instruction, and provide postoperative instructions; perform assessments that include obtaining
and reviewing patient health histories and taking/recording blood pressure and other vital signs; perform appropriate dental charting and treatment documentation in the electronic record; expose and process dental radiographs (if licensed for this expanded function); administer nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia and monitor sedation cases (if licensed for these expanded functions); perform coronal polishing (if licensed for this expanded function); take alginate impressions, pour, and trim models; fabricate night guards, bleaching trays, splints, custom trays, and temporary crowns; prepare lab prescription forms, ship and receive lab cases, and maintain record of lab orders; perform in-office whitening (with proper certification); and perform daily inventory & clinic maintenance duties as well as various administrative tasks.
High School Diploma/GED and completion of dental assistant program required. Certified dental assistant preferred. Must be trained in four-handed dentistry; Must possess thorough working knowledge of Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes; OSHA regulations; and the Arkansas Dental Practice Act. Must be licensed in the State of Arkansas as a registered dental assistant or be eligible for licensure; radiography and coronal polishing permit, nitrous oxide administration
permit. Sedation monitoring permit preferred. Proficiency with dental practice management software (such as EagleSoft) and MS Office (Outlook and Word) and experience in front desk management in a dental environment are preferred and experience in an oral surgery environment is desirable. Selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening.
